How to Prepare for a House Cleaner (and Get the Best Results)

Tidy, prepared living room ready for a house cleaner

Booking a cleaner is meant to make life easier — and a few minutes of prep beforehand helps them focus on the deep cleaning rather than tidying. Here’s how to get ready (and what you can happily leave to us).

Do a quick declutter

Clear floors, benches and surfaces of everyday clutter — toys, papers, dishes. The more clear space your cleaner has, the more time goes into actual cleaning rather than moving things around.

Secure valuables and important items

Put away cash, jewellery and anything fragile or precious. It’s not about trust — it just gives everyone peace of mind and lets your cleaner work freely.

Make a note of your priorities

Is the kitchen your biggest pain point? Expecting guests and want the bathrooms spotless? Let your cleaner know what matters most so they can focus their time where you’ll notice it.

Sort out access and pets

  • Confirm how your cleaner will get in (key, code or you’ll be home).
  • Secure pets somewhere comfortable, especially if they’re nervous around strangers or vacuums.
  • Make sure there’s a clear path to the areas being cleaned.

What you don’t need to do

You don’t need to pre-clean! There’s no need to scrub before we arrive — that’s our job. Just a quick tidy of clutter is plenty.

After the first clean

Share feedback after your first visit. Loved how the bathrooms turned out but want more attention on the floors next time? Tell us — it helps us tailor every future clean to exactly how you like it.
